Frequently asked questions
How much will I have at retirement? +
Enter your age, current 401(k) balance, salary, contribution percentage, employer match, and expected return. The calculator projects your balance at retirement by compounding your contributions and match each month.
How does the employer match work? +
Many employers match a percentage of your salary that you contribute, up to a cap. We add the match (limited to your own contribution percentage) on top of your contributions — it is essentially free money toward retirement.
What is the 4% rule? +
A common rule of thumb says you can withdraw about 4% of your retirement balance in the first year (adjusted for inflation thereafter) with a low chance of running out over 30 years. We use your withdrawal rate to estimate annual retirement income.
